The Klyne Audio Arts SK-5A is a high-end solid-state preamplifier from the 1980s, widely regarded by audiophiles for its world-class phono stage and exceptional build quality. Manufactured by Stan Klyne in Olympia, Washington.

  • Design: Solid-state stereo preamplifier with a focus on vinyl playback.
  • Inputs: Phono (MM/MC), Line, Aux, and Tape.
  • Phono Gain: Adjustable from 22–34 dB (plus high-level gain).
  • Bandwidth: 0.5 Hz to 250 kHz for line inputs; 1 Hz to 150 kHz for MC phono.
  • Output Impedance: 300 ohms.
  • Dimensions: 19" W × 2.5" H × 12.5" D.
  • Phono Adjustability: Extensive internal DIP switches allow for precise cartridge loading, gain, and capacitance adjustments.

High-Frequency Contours: Includes unique settings to damp the high-frequency resonant peaks common in many moving coil (MC) cartridges.

Minimalist Interface: Known for a clean design with only one indicator light, focusing internal resources on signal purity rather than "features" like tone controls.

"Klyne is a vinyl lover’s dream. The onboard phonostage offers a wide range of MM and MC settings with adjustable gain, loading, and capacitance."

Klyne SK-5A preamp, S/N 5726273U, along with the attached invoice from Klyne Audio Arts for refurbishment (dated Fe. 7, 2012) totaling $1,336.50.  The phase reverse chip was removed and not replaced because the part is no longer manufactured.
